Manipal College of Medical Sciences (MCOMS), Nepal provides a unique environment for students to pursue their dreams of a career in medicine with the added advantage of international exposure.
MCOMS has students from various countries including India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Singapore, Thailand, the Middle East, Kenya, South Africa, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, and therefore, a cross-cultural hub of activity.
About 55% of the students are men and 45% women. The faculty has been largely drawn from reputed institutions in India and Nepal. There are experienced teachers who strive to instill the right spirit and traditions.
Heads of Departments and Director Academics ensure all-round academic excellence, and all-round development of students. Fortnightly tests are conducted to measure the performance of the students and Principal’s counseling of each individual student is done at least once in a semester – reports of which are forwarded to their parents.
Students are also required to undergo additional 4 to 6 hours of self-study every day, 330 days in a year in an integrated fashion to ensure they perform well in their examinations.
The renowned faculty at MCOMS ensure that each student receives adequate attention and mentorship to guide them toward a successful medical career. Education at MCOMS is not just about books and classrooms, but also about overall personality development and honing special skills. Apart from gaining an internationally recognized medical degree, a student graduates with a competitive edge over others, which is a necessity in today’s world.
There is a great deal of interaction between students and faculty even after college hours. Groups of 5-7 students are formed and are put under the direct supervision of a faculty under the mentorship scheme, which ensures all-round student welfare and academic excellence. We celebrate most festivals together.
‘Expressions’, the main social event at MCOMS consists of diverse sports and cultural events. All these activities help to develop interpersonal and leadership skills. Well-developed codes of conduct ensure a good academic and social environment in campus. Ragging is strictly forbidden.
Please refer to the left-hand side menus for info meant for new students (joining instructions, book list, campus rules etc.) as well as facilities and services to the students, student speaks and many more.
The Basic Sciences students are accommodated in hostels in the Deep Campus. The rooms are planned for twin occupancy. The campus has two dining halls, a canteen, gym, TV, playing fields, communications center with internet, email, fax, photocopying facilities, etc.
The mission of the library is to acquire, manage, provide, and disseminate all health sciences information to students, faculty, and research scholars of the college.
The library of Manipal College of Medical Science is functioning from a spilled campus, it has been necessary to duplicate the library facilities. The main library is at Deep with an extension at MTH, Phulbari to look after the basic and clinical science students respectively.
Both the libraries are open from 8:30 AM to 12:00 midnight on all weekdays including Saturdays and holidays except Dashain and Tihar (Deepawali) vacations.
The college has playing fields for cricket, basketball, football, and volleyball. Among the indoor games, there are facilities for badminton, table tennis, carom, and chess. Inter-batch competitions and friendly matches continue through the year.
Nepal provides ample opportunities for outdoor activities like trekking and river rafting and the students enjoy these to the full.
Messes on the two campuses provide Indo-Nepali vegetarian / non-vegetarian food. The monthly mess bill is approx. Nepali Rs6, 000/- for four meals a day.
Both the campuses have canteens, attached to the dining halls, and their rates are regulated through rate contracts.
Medicare is compulsory for all students. Under Medicare, consultations, hospital admissions, and investigations are free (though some special investigations like CT scan, etc. are not entirely free). However, all medicines will have to be paid for, after a discount of 10%. Manipal Teaching Hospital has all basic and some of the super specialty services, with excellent diagnostic support.
Students are transported in the college buses for all of the academic activities and thus college rules do not permit students to keep any personal vehicles.
Transportation for group movements within the city, other than academic purposes, is also provided on a cost basis.
Hostels are equipped with high-speed internet facility (Fiber Optic LAN, as well as Wi-Fi), installed by outsourced internet service providers named World Link and Pokhara Internet. Students need to subscribe to internet connections in their hostel rooms.
